Here’s what our employees have to say about working at J. Lauritzen
Line Lund Clausen
chartering manager, JL-Singapore
I find it
challenging to work for JL, and it provides me with great opportunities to
meet new people and create a network within the shipping industry. All this
is very exciting and useful in my day to day work. The willingness of JL to
develop their young employees and give them individual responsibility is
great - as you can see from the fact that in a relatively short time, I
progressed from the trainee program to postings in the US and now
Singapore.
Brian Worning
shipping economist
When I started
working for JL, I came straight out of business school but was immediately
given the opportunity to participate in all aspects of developing
our business project portfolio. I have had great responsibility entrusted
upon me even from the beginning, which has required and inspired me to push
myself even further than I might have hoped for in my "first real job". My
job requires me to cooperate closely with people of different professions
and personalities, which is indeed a great learning experience. The gravity
and complexity of our projects combined with the informal and flat
organizational structure makes for an exciting and very enjoyable working
environment.
Therese Stenderup
senior operations manager
I began my
employment with JL more than eight years ago as a shipping trainee. During
my traineeship I worked for two different business units which also
included a six-month stay at an external office. After graduation I
have been working for Lauritzen Bulkers in the operations department, which
has also included a 2½ years posting to our office in Stamford, CT, USA.
This stay gave me valuable experience both personally and workwise. Today I
am a senior operations manager working in our head office in Copenhagen,
and I am now also involved in the training of our present shipping
trainees. Being a female in shipping can sometimes be a challenge,
especially when travelling to certain places in the world. However, within
JL there is no discrimination between the genders, and that is a strong
company force in my opinion. I like the responsibilities, challenges and
trust given to me and that is why I enjoy working for JL.
Christian F. Grønlund
assistant chartering manager
Since 2007 I
have been employed with Lauritzen Kosan as an assistant chartering manager,
but I began my career with JL as a trainee back in 2005. During my
traineeship I gained broad practical experience. After spending my first
year in JL's Bunkers Department trading oil, I moved to Lauritzen Kosan,
where I worked in both the Operations Department and the Chartering
Department. At the end of my traineeship I had the opportunity of spending
four weeks in Korea, where Lauritzen Kosan had a large number of new ships
built. Like other trainees, I have to confirm that the most intense part of
the training experience was learning to cope with serious job
responsibilities right from the beginning. In March 2009 I was posted
to Hong Kong, working with chartering aspects in relation to LPG vessels /
gas carriers. By March 2010 I moved directly from Hong Kong to JL in
Singapore. I find it very challenging to learn about the way of working and
living here in Asia and get close to a totally different culture than I am
used to. What I really like about working for JL is that there is always
room for personal development - and always something new to learn.
Malin Mattson
legal counsel
After five
years of studying and working within shipping and maritime law, I joined
the J. Lauritzen Legal Department in 2006. My job is to provide service,
advice and legal guidance to the whole company, which of course is
challenging in itself. This means that I not only need to learn about all
the different business areas within the Lauritzen concern, but there is
also a need to understand the different ways of providing legal advice. My
over-all experience at Lauritzen has been fantastic. From the legal
department's perspective, there is a lot going on all the time and the
company is very dynamic. Being a part of this great "machinery"
is really exciting. Even though it is a relaxed atmosphere at work, you can
easily feel that everyone is working towards the same goal - World Class
Shipping.
Ole Svendsen
vice president
I have been
part of J. Lauritzen since 1982, when my career as naval engineer began at
the Kogtved Maritime Academy. In 1987 I graduated as naval engineer from
Aalborg Engineer School. I sailed in the Lauritzen fleet, mainly in the
reefer vessels, and worked on the oil rigs in Lauritzen's off-shore
operation as well. JL then gave me the opportunity to seek new challenges
by offering me a position in the head office in Copenhagen as
superintendent. Today, I am in charge of Lauritzen Offshore Services'
technical department. My whole career at Lauritzen has indeed been a
challenging and an enriching experience. In 2005, I decided to take an MBA
degree in Shipping and Logistics at Copenhagen Business School, which
support from JL and the Lauritzen Foundation made possible.
